Arm Specific ProbesArm Specific ProbesIn addition to our Whole Chromosome probes, wealso provide the entire series of Arm Specific Probes(ASP). These probes hybridize to unique sequencescomprising either p- or q-arms of all humanchromosomes (except the p-arm of the acrocentricchromosomes), and they span the entire length ofthe respective chromosome arm. They are derivedfrom flow-sorted or microdissected chromosomes,to be highly specific for each chromosome.Band Specific ProbesRearrangements affecting regions smaller thanan average G-band can be visualized using bandspecificFISH probes. These particular probes enhancethe resolution typically obtained with wholechromosome probes when identifying chromosomalabnormalities.ASP applications permit the detection of chromosomalaberrations at the resolution of chromosome arms. Thisallows the analysis of chromosome partners involved intranslocations, the identification of the chromosome of originof marker chromosomes, analyses of complex chromosomalrearrangements in neoplastic cells and studying the inbornsupernumerary marker chromosome as well as confirmationof results obtained from M-FISH and SKY testing. ASP maybe of particular interest to those studying mutagenesis ofhuman chromosomes, for instance as a result of exposureto genotoxic agents.Band-Specific probes are capable of detecting smallchromosomal segments, such as those involved in subtletranslocations with breakpoints localized in distinct bands.They are amplified from microdissected chromosomematerial and fluorescently labeled to allow detection of thesesubchromosomal regions.
