ON AURKA (20q13) / 20q11Aurora kinase A (AURKA) covers the fundamental role ofregulating proper centrosome function, important to maintaingenomic stability during cell division and to ensure equalsegregation of replicated chromosomes to daughter cells.Deregulated duplication and distribution of centrosomes hasbeen implicated in mechanisms leading to mitotic spindleaberrations, aneuploidy, and genomic instability that are seenin many different tumor types. Consistent with this, AURKAamplification has been detected in approximately 12% ofprimary breast tumors, as well as in breast, ovarian, colon, prostate, neuroblastoma and cervical cancer cell lines. Recentinvestigations on new drugs developments have focused onthe importance of aurora kinases for tumor suppression.ON AURKB (17p13) / SE 17Aurora kinase B (AURKB) localizes to microtubules, and isa key regulator of the mitotic cell division and chromosomesegregation processes. Gain of function of AURKB correlateswith cell proliferation, induction of multinuclear cells, andchromosomal instability. The significant interest of the genein cancer diagnostics is related to the driving function ofAURKB in tumor progression, histological differentiation, and metastasis. AURKB is predictive for the aggressiverecurrence of many different types of tumors, includinghepatocellular carcinoma and oral squamous cell carcinoma.Recently new drugs have been under investigation for theircapacity of interfering with the aurora kinases activityrelated to tumor-suppressor effects. The AURKA (20q13) specific DNA probe is optimized todetect copy numbers of the AURKA gene region at region20q13. The 20q11 specific DNA probe is included to facilitatechromosome identification. The AURKB (17p13) specific DNA probe is optimized to detectcopy numbers of the AURKB gene region at region 17p13.The Chromosome 17 Satellite Enumeration (SE 17) probe atD17Z1 is included to facilitate chromosome identification.Cat.# KBI-10721 AURKA (20q13) / 20q11Cat.# KBI-10722 AURKB (17p13) / SE 17SHGC-144070D17S561MAPRE120q11.21600 KBD17Z117p13AURKB510 KBRH574672020q13SHGC 12066AURKA500 KB17D17S647RH75698AURKA (20q13) / 20q11 probe hybridized to breast tumortissue (2R2G).Literature:Sen et al, 2002, J of Nat Canc Inst 94; 1320-1329.Lassmann et al, 2007, Clin Cancer Res 13; 4083-4091Ordering information Color Tests Cat#ON AURKA (20q13) / 20q11 red/green 10 KBI-10721AURKB (17p13) / SE 17 probe hybridized to tumortissue (2R2G).Literature:Smith et al, 2005, Br J Cancer, 93; 719-729Ordering information Color Tests Cat#ON AURKB (17p13) / SE 17 red/green 10 KBI-10722<strong>Oncology</strong> <strong>Probes</strong> - Solid Tumors61
