CHAPTER A. General terms and conditions1. Basic undertaking1.1 ScopeCollection and delivery in Sweden is only carried outto those consignors or consignees who state a streetaddress, street number and correct postcode accordingto the www.postnummerservice.se, and on condition thatthe whole of the transport route consists of a negotiableroad. Certain postcodes are served on payment of alocation surcharge. For other Swedish locations, see1.4.1. For locations outside Sweden, in the first instanceaccording to the timetable. The basic undertaking mustnot be limited by local traffic regulations.General terms andconditionsDB <strong>Schenker</strong> Terms and Conditions of Transport(Sweden) apply as the norm for the calculation offreight and other transport charges in theDB <strong>Schenker</strong> land transport system.All assignments are performed by DB <strong>Schenker</strong> according to:• The agreed conditions in each individual case.• Product-specific conditions corresponding toChapter B in this brochure.• General terms corresponding to Chapter A in thisbrochure.• Liability regulations based on the General Conditions.Should deviations arise between the aforementionedregulations, priority shall be given according to the orderspecified above. DB <strong>Schenker</strong> Terms and Conditions ofTransport include surcharges to, and deviations from, theregulations in the General Conditions.The DB <strong>Schenker</strong> website www.dbschenker.com/se alwayscontains the most recently updated version of the Termsand Conditions of Transport, sales brochures, location list,location supplements and waybill instructions.If, during the term of an agreement, an adjustment in theGeneral Conditions, DB <strong>Schenker</strong>’s Location list, Distancetable and/or Terms and Conditions of Transport takesplace, or if a tax or other charge is added, removed orchanged, or if any other general adjustment applicableto the industry is made in the pricing, freight benefits orother increased level of costs that DB <strong>Schenker</strong> cannotinfluence, DB <strong>Schenker</strong> reserves the right to make thecorresponding price adjustment.Legal stipulations, including stipulations that entaillimitations on the maximum load that may be carried ona vehicle, can, in certain cases not stated in the Terms andConditions of Transport, necessitate deviations from theTerms and Conditions of Transport.The transport times according to the DB <strong>Schenker</strong> timetableare estimated and must not be seen as a time assurance.Deviating transport times can occur at locations withseasonal and volume variations and for transportation ofgoods with special features, such as, but not limited to:• Goods, the length and width of which exceed 2.4 m andthe height of which exceeds 2.2 m (domestic) or 2.0 m(international)• Transportation of dangerous goods• Heated transportation• Goods with defective or damaged packaging• Incorrectly or incompletely addressed goods ortransport instructionsExtra transport time will be required for transport thatis to be advised or delivered COD.DB <strong>Schenker</strong> reserves the right during handling andproduction to prioritise the consignments where allphysical items are marked with an approved standardtransport label (STL) and have correct transportinstructions transferred via EDI/Internet to DB <strong>Schenker</strong>.The DB <strong>Schenker</strong>/agreed timetable does not apply to otherconsignments.Unless otherwise agreed separately, DB <strong>Schenker</strong> isentitled to choose the mode of transport and route and,at its own discretion, send consignments directly or withtransshipment.1.2 Dispatching of goods1.2.1 Packaging of goodsIt is the consignor’s responsibility to package goodsand parcels, taking into consideration the fragility oftheir contents so they can withstand normal transportmovements in the groupage service. The groupage serviceoften includes terminal handling and mechanical sorting.The package should be designed in such a way so as notto cause damage to other goods during transportation.When defining items, the following characteristics areto be used to describe an item intended for transport,regardless of the transport product:• physically connected as one unit• physically manageable in one piece• minimum unit that DB <strong>Schenker</strong> takes responsibility for• has a unique identity• physically marked with the identity4
Examples of items:• a parcel, crate, roll or plastic-wrapped pallet• each parcel on a non-plastic-wrapped pallet• each parcel on a pallet that DB <strong>Schenker</strong> has wrappedin plasticDB <strong>Schenker</strong> cannot guarantee that the consignee part ofthe waybill reaches the consignee as it could be cancelled atthe departing terminal. A message to the consignee can thusnot be added to the waybill.1.2.2 LoadingLoading of a consignment takes place alongside or at therear of the vehicle from a loading bay or directly from theground. The customer is responsible for ensuring that theconsignor, at DB <strong>Schenker</strong>’s request, provides the necessaryequipment if the vehicle does not have a rear lift. Foritems where the size and weight require the use of equipment,the customer is responsible for ensuring that suchequipment is available and for meeting the cost.A consignment can comprise one or several items althoughthey must be combined physically on collection.A gate height of at least 4.5 m is required for loading.If this is not the case, reloading onto a lower vehicle isarranged on payment of a surcharge.After the vehicle has arrived at the consignor, it is assumedthat loading will commence immediately and is concludedwithin a certain period of time. A surcharge is payable foradditional time taken and also for loading on Saturdays,Sundays and public holidays.1.2.3 Securing of goodsThe party handling the loading is responsible forsecuring the goods according to the Swedish TransportAdministration and other modes of transport regulations(or equivalent regulations if loading takes place in anothercountry). When special equipment, in addition to strapsand chains, is required to secure the goods, it is theresponsibility of the consignor to obtain and supply thissecuring equipment. In the case of international transport,the consignee shall, if necessary, provide load securingequipment in addition to the basic equipment available oneach vehicle. DB <strong>Schenker</strong> may be able to help in obtainingthe necessary equipment on payment for the cost.The basic equipment for securing goods on DB <strong>Schenker</strong>vehicles is one strap per load metre, fixed or loose. Thesales representative and the customer shall, before anagreement is signed, discuss the question of securing theloads and decide who is to meet the cost of load-securingequipment in addition to the basic equipment.The consignor is obliged, when he has personally dealtwith the loading, to hand over a “load-securing assurancecertificate”, indicating that the load has been securedaccording to the current regulations for the transportin question and, in conjunction with sea transport/ferrytransport, the sea area for which the securing has beenadapted.This responsibility also includes loading the goods in sucha way as to avoid damage to the goods under normaltransport conditions. Dangerous goods must be securedin the transport unit in a manner that satisfies therequirements in the applicable transport instructions(ADR, RID, IMDG Code, etc.).1.2.4 Labelling of goods/transport informationIf DB <strong>Schenker</strong> is to be able to complete the transport accordingto the timetable, correctly completed transport instructions/STLlabel/waybill (approved versions are 004 and005 or later printed and approved by DB <strong>Schenker</strong>). Eachitem must have a correctly addressed STL transport label.To assess the weight-based freight, the following informationmust always be stated for the full consignment inaddition to the weight in full kg:– Volume in cubic metres. The value is stated to twodecimal points followed by m 3 .– Load metres. Must be stated for consignments that aredifficult to pack and on top of which other goods cannotbe loaded. The value should be stated to one decimalplace followed by FLM.– Pallet space = non-stackable pallet. The value is statedfollowed by PP.The waybills can be ordered via www.dbschenker.com/seor from one of the larger printers.All assignments and must be in compliance with currentDB <strong>Schenker</strong> instructions concerning information to andcommunication with DB <strong>Schenker</strong>. In conjunction withtransfer of information via EDI, point 6 shall apply.1.3 Receipt of goodsUnloading of a consignment takes place alongside or atthe rear of the vehicle to a loading bay or directly ontothe ground. The customer is responsible for ensuring thatthe consignee, at DB <strong>Schenker</strong>’s request, provides thenecessary equipment and mans the equipment used if thevehicle does not have a rear lift. For items where the sizeand weight require the use of equipment, the customer isresponsible for ensuring that such equipment is availableand for meeting the cost.For checking of the consignment see 5. The consignmentmust be signed for by the consignee unless agreed otherwise.The consignee must be available during working hours,weekdays 07.00–16.00. If this is not the case, DB <strong>Schenker</strong>offers two alternatives:1. Consignments can be collected from the DB <strong>Schenker</strong>terminal at an agreed time.2. Consignments can be delivered on payment of an extracharge following agreement with the consignee.After the vehicle has arrived at the consignee, it is assumedthat unloading will commence immediately and is concludedwithin a certain period of time. Surcharges are payable foradditional time taken and also for unloading on Saturdays,Sundays and public holidays.1.4 Special rules1.4.1 Exceptions to the basic undertakingGoods to and from Swedish locations not stated in theDB <strong>Schenker</strong> Location list are only accepted for transportfollowing prior agreement. The agreement specifies theterms under which transport is performed, as well as prices.The basic undertaking does not include consignments thatrequire special arrangements or where access is limited byan environmental zone, axle weight, local traffic regulationsor reloading to another vehicle for loading or unloading.A separate agreement is required when collecting fromseveral consignors for distribution to one consignee.5
