The gamemastercan decide to allow this or not only if and when the player makesthe request.Computer IlliterateBonus: 5 BPUnlike the Incompetence quality, the Computer Illiteratequality means the character is technologically uneducated to thepoint she has no experience at working with AR, computers, commlinks,and other electronic devices. Such characters have troubleperforming even simple tasks such as sending email or instantmessages, programming a trideo recorder, using an unfamiliarcommlink, or performing a data search.Computer Illiterate provides a –2 dice pool modifier toall tests that involve a computer, electronic device or Matrixconnectedsystem in any way, shape or form. Additionally, thegamemaster may require the character to make a Success Test tocomplete tasks her contemporaries would take for granted.Cranial BombBonus: 10 BPSomeone has planted a cranial bomb in the character’s head(for a description of the possible headware involved, see p. 331,SR4, and p. 32, Augmentation, for various trigger types). Thegamemaster decides who planted it and what that person or groupwants. The player need not pay for the bomb with the character’sstarting Resource points—the bomb’s a freebie.If the character manages to disarm the bomb, the gamemastermay elect to replace it with an Enemy quality, or a mental disorder(such as a Phobia, Mania or OCD) of equal BP value. This qualitymay not be bought off with Karma.Day JobBonus: 5 to 15 BPA Day Job burdens a character with responsibilities andtime constraints. While there are some advantages, such as stableincome, a Day Job is a hindrance with the shadowrunning profession.The table below offers guidelines for salary and hours. Thegamemaster and player can work out actual restrictions and hoursof the character’s profession. The qualitymay represent a unique look, a peculiar fashion sense, a trans- ornon-metahuman modification, a unique speech pattern—anythingthat makes the character inconveniently attention-grabbingand memorable.Whatever type of flair the character selects, it must enableother individuals to easily remember him. Any individual whoattempts to identify, trace or physically locate the character (orgain information about him via Legwork) receives a +3 dicepool modifier on all tests made during such attempts (includingPerception Tests). The modifier does not apply to astral or Matrixsearches.
