Simon Wentworth (order #1132857) 9and it will take three combat turns for them to find partial cover. Inaddition, intruders receive an AR bonus at gamemaster’s discretion.Black Hole –2/–4Anything small, valuable, or shiny tends to go missing in yourhome. Keycards, credsticks, ammo, jewelry, and matching socksdisappear, although no one knows if it is the work of tiny gnomesor more mysterious forces… Any item with a concealability of –4or more is at risk. When an item disappears, the gamemaster rollstwo dice. At level 1, the items reappear in 6-(hits) days. At level 2,on a glitch, the items disappears for good.Corporate Owned –3The home is part of corporate-built housing such as an arcologyor gated wage-slave community. While the place is nice andsecure, everything is monitored. Security watches inside and out.A character who takes Corporate Owned for a residence must takethe quality Day Job (p. 103).Crash Pad –1This home is a magnet for friends and strangers to crash.Somehow, they bypass security no matter how many times youchange the locks. It’s a small inconvenience on the character’scomforts and necessities.Runner’s CompanionDefective CHN –1Your Central Home Network (CHN) was improperly installed.Regardless of the brand, the home manages itself in waysnot intended, such as cooking and cleaning on Greenwich MeanTime (not your own). On the other hand, while it could detecthazards or accidents in the home, it won’t alert the homeowner, nor take the appropriate action. “Yes sir, the house is on fire. Isthere anything else you require?”Green Plan –1The home is off the grid. Power (if any) comes from renewablesources on the premises (solar, wind, etc). This also meansthat there’s no extra power for an electric car, drones, or CHN.Necessities cannot be higher than Middle.Haunted –4Like the trideo of the house built on a graveyard, your residencehas a bad karmic history. On occasion, toxic spirits, ghosts, orcreepy (and dangerous) critters visit or take up residence. Examplesinclude an apartment in Glow City (Redmond), a glitched ritualin the basement that opened a rift; the burial ground of a serialkiller’s victims, or the site of a mass-murder.Household Gremlins –1/–3Necessities are glitchy, poorly installed, or hard for the helpto manage. When the character is home, roll a die (level 1) or twodice (level 2). On a hit, Necessities (or a particular category ofNecessities) drops to Squatter level for a length of time determinedby the gamemaster. This quality can only be taken with Necessitiesabove Low.Lax Security –2Whether through inexperience or indifference to the character’shome, security is not up to what it should be. The lifestyle’sSecurity threshold for detecting intruders (Perception and Analyzetests) is increased by one. This can be due to distracted guards, thick foliage that provides good hiding spaces, or obscured cameraviews around the house.Living by Committee –2Your Home Owners Association, community housing, ordormitory life is great and keeps costs down, except for the endlessrules and regulations you must follow, and the mandatory meetingsyou must attend (if you miss a meeting, a new inconvenientrule will be passed just to annoy you). Chores must be done (likemowing the lawn) and rules followed, otherwise the characterrisks eviction.Living with Parents –2The character pays less for his space because he still lives athome with his parents. While at home, the character has to obeythe rules of the house, such as a curfew or parental controls onthe Matrix. Other possible restrictions could include not invitingsome of the character’s “friends” over anymore or not going outbecause of another appointment or event, such as relatives comingover or bowling night.advanced lifestyles . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .163
