4.25 5KW GENERATOR -- TRAILERThe 5KW generator requires very little preventativemaintenance to ensure good performance.Belt tension should be maintained at 50 ft-lbs.When trouble-shooting the 5KW generator, it isimportant to check the internal capacitor, theforward/reverse rotating diodes, and the internalwindings. The forward/reverse rotating diodes are located atthe filter end of the generator. The reverse diode ismarked with a red dot on the solder terminal. Theforward diode is unmarked. A faulty diode will give ashort circuit or open circuit reading in both directions.Generally, premature capacitor failure can beattributed to over-speeding or over-heating of thegenerator. The maximum speed for the generator is 3600rpm. Setting engine speed on multi-temp units is criticalto proper operation of the generator. The engine speedshould be set to 1500 rpm with unit operating in fullyloaded high speed cool mode, with all compartmentsturned on. Refer to Table 4-6 for correspondinggenerator voltage output.Table4-6.GeneratorVoltageOutputEngine RPM Generator RPM Volts / HZ.1530 3600 240 /60A generator fault finding guide is shown inFigure 4-21.
