To ensure thatthere is no confusion, basic terminology related <strong>to</strong> <strong>VCA</strong> is definedbelow:■ Metho<strong>do</strong>logy: An entire process or approach (e.g. assessment <strong>of</strong>vulnerability <strong>and</strong> capacity) which brings <strong>to</strong>gether specific methods<strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong>ols <strong>to</strong> support the overall process. Examples <strong>of</strong> metho<strong>do</strong>logiesare <strong>VCA</strong> <strong>and</strong> community-based first aid (CBFA).■ Method: A set <strong>and</strong> sequence <strong>of</strong> steps or tasks <strong>to</strong> be followed aspart <strong>of</strong> a larger framework (metho<strong>do</strong>logy) <strong>and</strong> is implemented byusing a number <strong>of</strong> analytical <strong>to</strong>ols. Examples include: emergencyneeds analysis, hazard analysis, livelihood analysis, gender analysis,stakeholder analysis.■ Tools: A means or instrument <strong>to</strong> accomplish a specific task.Examples include: transect walk, timeline, semi-structured interviews,role play, etc.Selecting the best <strong>to</strong>ols
