This willensure better dissemination <strong>of</strong> the results, increase the chances <strong>of</strong>obtaining funding for projects <strong>and</strong> secure multi-sec<strong>to</strong>ral <strong>and</strong>multi-institutional acceptance <strong>and</strong> replication <strong>of</strong> the <strong>VCA</strong>process.Box 7Stimulating <strong>VCA</strong> knowledge in National SocietiesSome National Societies would like <strong>to</strong> promote the use <strong>of</strong> <strong>VCA</strong> <strong>and</strong>spread information <strong>and</strong> learnings about the process throughout theirSociety. A simple <strong>and</strong> effective way <strong>of</strong> <strong>do</strong>ing this is <strong>to</strong> invite a memberfrom a branch that is considering carrying out a <strong>VCA</strong> <strong>to</strong> participate ineither the managing committee/task force <strong>and</strong>/or the implementingteam. The experience gained will be useful if the branch decides <strong>to</strong>undertake their own <strong>VCA</strong>.Box 8Best practice: Inter-regional support <strong>of</strong> <strong>VCA</strong>National Societies <strong>of</strong>ten call upon trainers from other regions – or evenother continents – <strong>to</strong> support their training, sensitization <strong>and</strong>implementation activities. Examples include:■ The Dominican <strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> decided <strong>to</strong> carry out a <strong>VCA</strong> as part <strong>of</strong>their community-based disaster preparedness (CBDP) programme.Four recently trained <strong>VCA</strong> practitioners – from Argentina, Venezuela,Guatemala <strong>and</strong> Costa Rica – provided training support <strong>and</strong> conductedten <strong>VCA</strong>s with the National Society.■ A Somali <strong>VCA</strong> trainer helped carry out an assessment in Africa’sGreat Lakes region.■ In southern Africa, <strong>VCA</strong> trainers from Pakistan facilitated the process.■ A facilita<strong>to</strong>r from the Middle East helped <strong>VCA</strong> sensitization inMongolia (see Box 5, p. 24).
