52Implementationphase<strong>VCA</strong> dayAfter all the planning, training, practice <strong>and</strong> preparation, you arefinally ready <strong>to</strong> implement the <strong>VCA</strong> in the community. Thisshould be an exciting day – a day that will have implications onthe way in which the National Society <strong>and</strong> specific branches workwith communities <strong>to</strong> reduce vulnerabilities in a direct manner.It is the beginning <strong>of</strong> real community work.In fact, you have already undertaken a <strong>VCA</strong>. You can use thesame checklist prepared for the field test – although you may havemodified it according <strong>to</strong> suggestions made at the debriefingexercise.Useful Tips Last minute suggestionsJust in case you think you may need it, here is an additional checklist<strong>to</strong> make sure everything is ready <strong>and</strong> everybody is prepared:■ Good preparation is a “must”.■ Make sure everybody knows how the day will unfold <strong>and</strong> whatwill happen.■ Be flexible – expect the unexpected <strong>and</strong> be ready <strong>to</strong> deal withit creatively.■ Make sure you have a complete list <strong>of</strong> required resources <strong>and</strong>sufficient funds <strong>to</strong> get everything ready on time.■ <strong>VCA</strong> team members need <strong>to</strong> be prepared for every activity <strong>and</strong>familiar with every <strong>to</strong>ols.■ Ensure appropriate timing for activities (not <strong>to</strong>o intense) withscheduled breaks in between the activities.■ Be familiar with the composition <strong>of</strong> the communities beforeimplementing the <strong>VCA</strong>.■ Have all background data ready (assessment <strong>to</strong>ols, secondarydata, etc.).
