She hasbeen involved in an international initiative with the WorldHealth Organization, the Francis Xavier Bagnoud Centrefor Health and Human Rights of the Harvard School ofPublic Health.■ Richard Francis Fuggle has held the Shell Chair ofEnvironment at the University of Cape Town. He is thefounder and Director of the University’s EnvironmentalEvaluation Unit.■ Geoffrey Graham Garrett is Chief Executive of Australia’sCommonwealth, Scientific and Industrial ResearchOrganisation (CSIRO). He was Head National MaterialsResearch Institute, Executive Vice President: Operationsand President and CEO at the CSIR.■ Jan Collins Geertsema is Director of Research Supportat North-West University at Potchefstroom. Previously hewas Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Professorof Statistics at Potchefstroom University.■ Gert Johannes Gerwel is Chancellor of RhodesUniversity, Distinguished Professor in the Humanities atUniversity of the Western Cape and Honorary Professorin the Humanities at University of Pretoria. He served asDirector-General in the Office of President Mandela andSecretary of the Cabinet.■ Wieland Gevers is Executive Officer of the Academyof Science of South Africa. He was Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town. He was Presidentof the South African Biochemical Society, Presidentof the Royal Society of South Africa and President of theAcademy of Science of South Africa.■ David Glasser is Professor of Chemical Engineering andDirector of the Centre of Material and Process Synthesisat the University of the Witwatersrand.
