Social Deve<strong>lo</strong>pment ServicesSocial Assistance DeliveryThe Social Assistance Case<strong>lo</strong>ad for FY <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong> is shown in Table 2. The number offamilies receiving assistance in each category: Emp<strong>lo</strong>yable, Work Opportunity ProgramWOP)/ASARET, Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers, Persons with Disabilities and Childout of Parental Home are also shown.SN was recognized as zero financial risk and has best practice due to the reporting andaccounting. The staff also experienced a 12% decrease in the Social Assistancedependency in the last 5 years.The SN Social Deve<strong>lo</strong>pment program generated income by delivering training sessions underActive Measures throughout the province on WOP/ASARET delivery mechanisms. Six (6)workshops were delivered in <strong>lo</strong>cations as far as Cranbrook, Williams Lake, Kam<strong>lo</strong>ops,Skeetchestn and Vancouver Island.The Child out of Parental Home Program was discontinued by the Aboriginal Affairs andNorthern Deve<strong>lo</strong>pment Canada this year. Income tax processing has improved as young parents are coming in early toensure no stop in their family al<strong>lo</strong>wance. Word of mouth helped increase last year’sassistance with 525 applications. This year, assistance in applications already hit 200.Added to the duties is government letter interpretation. This service helps communitymembers <strong>lo</strong>wer their stress. Other assistance provided include pension applications, andhelping elders create a bill payment system that they are comfortable with either in the officeor at their home.Page 17 of 64
