Stó:lô Elders Lodge (SEL)The Elders Lodge is entering its 5 th year of operation of continuous 24/7 assisted living care.The Lodge is holding an open house on May 5, <strong>2012</strong> to celebrate. There are 13 unitscurrently occupied. The average rent is $ 924.00 per month. The staff is devoted to providingthe tenants with a secure environment, and a cozy, relaxing home-like atmosphere for elderlypeople.BC Housing Operational Review & RecommendationsIn February <strong>2012</strong>, the SEL successfully completed the annual BC Housing Operationalreview. BC Housing recommended that the SEL implement and maintain a 3- year CapitalPlan and the staff has 9 months to complete the plan.StaffingThe Elders Lodge is fully staffed, supervised with an (off-site) full-time Health Manager, fulltimeLicensed Practical Nurse (Lodge Supervisor) part- time Administrative Assistant, parttimeActivity Worker and daily nursing and staff supervision on site.The Elders Lodge operates on a 24/7 continuous care basis, with 8-hour shifts covered byqualified Registered Care Aids. A part-time Licensed Practical Nurse is on duty on weekends.A part-time Administrative Assistant (on-site) provides office assistance. ie. building andequipment maintenance requests and financial reporting, 3 days a week. There are 2 Cooks(one full time and one part time) that work 7 hours a day, 7 days a week. They cook 2 mealsa day (lunch and supper). There is one Activity Worker who works 3 days a week andensures that the Elders have continuous mental, physical, social and recreation activities.Stó:lô Elders Lodge Activities and ServicesEach month, the ActivityWorker creates and presents amonthly calendar of events forthe Elders comfort, enjoymentand pleasure. Allevents/outings rely upon whatis taking place in ourcommunity, and the schedule isdependent to change with theinterest of the Elders.Activities at the Elders Lodgeinclude: celebration of tenants’birthdays; family holiday dinner celebrations, (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas);drummers every 1 st Wednesday of the month; arts and crafts (including cultural); sit and befit; weekly puzzles; movie nights; and Thursday night bingo. The Elders have enjoyed JulieMal<strong>lo</strong>way and her team of helpers who teach the Elders how to make cedar hearts,headbands and roses.Page 51 of 64
