Payments can be made with cash(a $3,000 limit applies), money order or cheque. Don’t attach <strong>your</strong>cheque with pins or staples, and don’t send cash.It’s important that you send <strong>your</strong> original <strong>activity</strong> <strong>statement</strong>,not a copy or a version generated from a commercial softwarepackage. If you use a commercial software package, make sureyou transfer the information onto <strong>your</strong> original <strong>statement</strong>.EXPECTING A REFUNDGenerally, if you have an ABN, refunds can only be paid directlyinto <strong>your</strong> nominated financial institution account, so it’s essentialthat we have <strong>your</strong> correct account and BSB numbers. Yournominated account must be at a branch of the institutionin Australia.If you don’t have an ABN, <strong>your</strong> refund will be paid by cheque.Occasionally, you may not receive <strong>your</strong> refund or the refund <strong>your</strong>eceive may be less than you expected. This may be because:n we have kept part or all of <strong>your</strong> refund to apply it against atax debt that you owe us <strong>–</strong> this process is known as offsettingn we may use a credit balance from one of <strong>your</strong> other taxaccounts to pay a tax debt you owe and subsequently receivea payment from you in relation to that tax debt. As a result,<strong>your</strong> account may be placed in credit and <strong>your</strong> paymentbecomes what is called a voluntary payment, and is notautomatically refundedn we have held <strong>your</strong> refund because you haven’t nominateda bank account for us to pay <strong>your</strong> refund into, or the bankaccount details you provided are incorrect or incompleten we have held <strong>your</strong> refund because you have not lodgedone or more of <strong>your</strong> <strong>activity</strong> <strong>statement</strong>sn we have held the refund because we need to check,or verify with you some details shown on <strong>your</strong> return or<strong>activity</strong> <strong>statement</strong>.For more information about expecting a refund,refer to our website at Where is my refund?Phone us on 13 28 66 if you need to change <strong>your</strong> financialinstitution account details or to enquire about <strong>your</strong> refund.You’ll need to provide proof of identity.43
