Heavy Metal Adsorption from SeawaterAdvisorCo-AdvisorStudent: YEUNG King Lun / CBME: CHEN Xinqing / CBME: HE Naien / CBPE(UROP1200, Summer 2011)To continue my work from the previous semester, I prepare MCM-41 to be grafted usingmono-, di- and tri-amino-organoalkoxysilanes with different loading. Theamino-functionalized MCM-41 adsorb different loading of Fe 3+ . The isotherm study on the effectiveness of theadsorption power of Cadmium at pH 5 and the effectiveness of the adsorption power atdifferent pH (2 to 5) are performed, both with the di-amino adsorbent (NN-MCM41). Thesamples are analyzed by the Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-AES).Smart Antimicrobial Coating for Filter MediaAdvisorCo-AdvisorStudent: YEUNG King Lun / CBME: LEUNG Hong Hang / CBME: LAM Tsz Ying Gene / CBPE(UROP1000, Summer 2011)Since the epidemic outbreak of SARS in 2003 and the pandemic outbreak of Swine Flu in2009, there has been an increasing awareness on the role of inhalation of fine particles,ranging from approximately 0.1 to 100 μm in disease transmission. It is important forintensive care providers to be prepared for large-scale airborne epidemic that may cause masscasualty from respiratory failure, and to take protective measures. In this project, the focus ison the filter media that are used in air-purifiers and respirators, and to examine the effect andsafety of smart antimicrobial coating on the N95 FFR.29
