Automatic Balance Control System for Quad-copterAdvisor : LI Zexiang / ECEStudent : CHE Feng Yu / ELEC-HR(UROP1000, Summer 2011)Unmanned aerial vehicle is always a hot topic for researchers. Nowadays, as quad-copter ismore flexible and portable, it becomes more and more popular to be used for UAV research. The first problem to be solved though is how to stabilize the quad-copter. In this project, weuse the quad-copter Xarcraft-X600 as the focus of the study. First, we build a failure prooftesting bed, and then we design and test the automatic balance control system of thequad-copter.High-performance Vision-based Motion Estimator for Mobile RobotAdvisor : LI Zexiang / ECEStudent : XU Yang / ELEC-HR(UROP1000, Summer 2011)Vision-based motion estimation is a newly developed technology that incorporates the videocaptured by a camera on a vehicle or robot to measure the motion, which is significant fornavigation. This technology can be widely used in navigating all kinds of unmanned vehiclesin the future. In this project, I help setup the platform of vision-based motion estimationsystem and implement a real-time algorithm on the platform to achieve optimal performance.Design and Characterization of an Area-efficient Low Power CMOSVoltage ReferenceAdvisor : MOK Philip K T / ECEStudent : LI Shaolan / ELEC-HR(UROP1100 & 1200, Spring 2011 & Summer 2011)Voltage reference is an essential building block in analog electronics. All the switching andlinear regulators use this reference as part of the control loop to regulate the output voltage ofa power converter to an accurate value. For the reason, voltage reference needs to generate analmost constant voltage that is independent of process, temperature and supply voltagevariations. As the technology keeps scaling down, components are integrated more compactly. This project focuses on designing and characterizing an area-efficient low power CMOSvoltage reference in 0.35µm CMOS technology. Equipment is setup to measure theperformance of the reference design and a proposed design. Several parameters of the voltagereferences are measured, compared and characterized.48
