This resolution shall become effective immediately. CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL Mrs. Mitchell: This meeting of the Barnegat Township Board of Education for October 29, 2007 is called back to order. May I have a Roll Call please? Before I begin I would like to thank the Cecil S. Collins’ PTA, Mr. Delaporte for the beautiful flowers and the refreshments in the back, it really makes me feel welcome and if you could just please pass that on to your PTA membership we would really appreciate it. Thank you. APPROVAL OF AGENDA AND/OR ADDITIONS Mrs. Mitchell: May I have a Motion to approve the Agenda with the following changes. Under Education, Motion 5, the day to be May 28 th . Under Personnel, Item #4 should be Special Ed/CST Supervisor. Under Personnel Item #33, as amended and under Facilities, Motion #1 at no charge added. May I have a Motion please to approve the Agenda? Moved by Mrs. Lally, seconded by Mrs. Germano. All in favor, aye. Motion passes. MOTION TO APPROVE ANNUAL DISTRICT REPORT OF VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM FORM SY 2006-2007 Now, Dr. McMahon will read the Annual District Report of Violence and Vandalism. Dr. McMahon, please. Dr. McMahon: Yes, thank you. In compliance with public law 2001, c.299, Barnegat has made October 22nd to October 26 th School Violence Awareness Week also known as Red Ribbon Week, here at Barnegat Township Schools. This law also requires that I read the annual district report of violence and vandalism at a public hearing. The 2006-2007 report is as follows: In regard to incidents by reporting category in the year 2006-2007, there were fifteen instances of violence throughout the district, four instances of vandalism, one incident of weapons and five for substance abuse for a total twenty five throughout the year. The four acts of vandalism included: damage to property (tire) with a cost to the district totaling $150.00. As to action taken; police were notified three times with two complaints filed. There were no expulsions from school; no students removed from the alternate school, twenty-one short term in-school suspensions and two out - of school suspensions and no other actions taken. The offenders in all reported incidents were students – nine regular students and thirteen students with disabilities for a total of 22 students. In total, fourteen victims were reported – four regular education students; five students with disabilities and five school personnel. Thank you. PRESIDENT’S REMARKS Mrs. Mitchell: Before we open up to Public Session there are a couple of things I would like to say to the public. It is just the state of our schools, where I feel that we re going in the right direction with all the negative things that have been in the press lately. I would first like to say thank you to each of you who attend these meetings and give us the valuable feedback that enhances the education of our Township’s children. Now, I would like to take this opportunity to give you and update on how our district is fairing since becoming a full K-12 district. Over six years ago we launched a six-year plan to expand and enrich the education of our students in doing so we brought a strategic and financial leader to the district in Dr. McMahon. He was a clear choice with his background in similar undertakings in Plumsted and after serving as Assistant Commissioner of Education for Finance. Moving forward with his guidance, we as a Board that increasing academic achievement is this district’s overall goal and this is not going to change.
