<strong>University</strong> Policies & Procedures<strong>University</strong> RegulationsACADEMICViolations of the academic policies <strong>and</strong> procedures outlined in the Student H<strong>and</strong>book <strong>and</strong>Course Catalog may be considered violations of <strong>University</strong> regulations <strong>and</strong> as such, aresubject to <strong>University</strong> judicial processes <strong>and</strong> sanctions.ALCOHOL<strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> permits responsible use <strong>and</strong> legal possession of alcohol on campus by students oflegal age <strong>and</strong> in the designated areas. Further detail for this regulation is provided in theStatement on Alcohol <strong>and</strong> Drugs outlined in this h<strong>and</strong>book.COPYRIGHT<strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> <strong>University</strong> expects students to comply with Copyright Law, PL 94-553. Informationregarding this law is available via the BCU’s website. Persons disregarding copyright lawsviolate BCU policy <strong>and</strong> do so at their own risk.DISRUPTIONS OR PROTESTActivities that disrupt the normal operations of the <strong>University</strong>, threaten or endanger thesafety of community members, interfere with the rights of others or violate civil law are notacceptable. In order to ensure peaceful protest, students should inquire with the StudentDevelopment Office located in the Stark Student Center.DRESS CODEStudents should be properly attired on campus. This applies to public areas, classrooms,dining hall, library, student center, <strong>and</strong> <strong>University</strong> grounds. Shoes <strong>and</strong> shirts are alwaysrequired in the dining hall. Clothing offensive to cultural, ethnic, or social groups are notacceptable. <strong>University</strong> policies on discrimination apply to clothing.DRUGSIn compliance with the Drug-Free Schools <strong>and</strong> Communities Act <strong>and</strong> the Drug-FreeWorkplace Act, the <strong>University</strong> seeks to provide a drug-free learning environment <strong>and</strong>workplace.DISORDERLY CONDUCTDisruptions of the <strong>University</strong> community, residence halls <strong>and</strong> <strong>University</strong> activities <strong>and</strong>events; including presence during a violation of the student h<strong>and</strong>book is prohibited. Ifstudents are present during a violation of the student h<strong>and</strong>book, even if they may not haveinitiated or actively participated in the violation, they may be charged with the specificviolation or face disciplinary action.EXPLOSIVESPossession or use of explosives, ammunition, firecrackers, or pyrotechnics of any nature oncampus is prohibited.FAILURE TO COMPLYFailure to comply with a request or official sanction issued by an authorized <strong>University</strong> staff,faculty or administrator. This includes but is not limited to request for meetings <strong>and</strong>completion of sanctions issued by members of the Student Development, Security, <strong>and</strong><strong>Residential</strong> <strong>Life</strong> staff.29
