FIRE REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURESStudents guilty of arson or similar acts or endangering the safety of others will be subject tosevere disciplinary sanctions, including expulsion. The <strong>University</strong> may also take civil action.FIRE ALARMSWhen the fire alarm sounds, all occupants must evacuate. Complete evacuation of buildingsis a matter of law. Tampering with fire equipment or alarms is a serious safety issue, <strong>and</strong>subject to severe disciplinary action including loss of campus housing, suspension, orprosecution under Iowa law. All residents of building may be held responsible judicially <strong>and</strong>financially for misuse of fire equipment.FIREARMS & WEAPONSPossession or use of firearms, ammunition, metal-tipped darts, bows <strong>and</strong> arrows, BB guns<strong>and</strong> other projectile weapons including air-soft guns, including knives not specificallydesigned for kitchen use, are not permitted on <strong>University</strong> property. Possession of anyweapon or item directed to be a weapon is subject to severe disciplinary action, includingsuspension or expulsion.FIRE PERMITSponsoring groups may request a fire permit through the Sioux City Fire Department.Permit requests require minimum 30-days' notice prior to the event. If a permit is granted,the fire department will send a copy of the permit to the sponsoring organization. Copiesneed to be left with the director of Facility Services, <strong>and</strong> the Office of Student Development.Even though <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> <strong>University</strong> has a valid fire permit, the police, fire department, <strong>and</strong>campus security have the discretion to revoke the permit at the event.FLAMMABLE FLUIDSUse or storage of flammable fluids in campus buildings without proper authorization isprohibited.GUESTSGuests must follow BCU’s rules <strong>and</strong> regulations as outlined in the Student H<strong>and</strong>book <strong>and</strong>Academic Catalog while on campus or at BCU events. BCU Students are held responsible forthe conduct of their guests <strong>and</strong> subject to disciplinary action accordingly.HARASSMENTHarassment of any campus community member or guest based on gender, religion, race,color, age, disability, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or maritalstatus is prohibited. Any conduct that interferes with a <strong>University</strong> community member’s rights,responsibilities, <strong>and</strong>/or abilities to achieve his/her academic, personal <strong>and</strong> professionalpotential may be considered violations of the Harassment Policy <strong>and</strong> are subject to disciplinaryaction.ELECTRONIC HARASSMENTAny harassment, threats, or intimidation through electronic media, including, but not limitedto, cell phone, text message, social media, email, or any other form may be automaticallyreferred to the Sioux City police for investigation <strong>and</strong>/or action.HAZINGHazing is defined as any act which endangers the mental, physical, or emotional health orsafety of a student for the purpose of initiation or as a condition for continued membership ina group. Hazing is unilaterally prohibited at <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong>.30
