Health InsuranceAll students carrying nine or more credit hours on the <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus arerequired to carry health insurance. Coverage may be through the student’s parents orthrough insurance students carry on their own. Policy information is requested during thevalidation process <strong>and</strong> is maintained as a part of the student’s university record.CAMPUS EVENTS COORDINATORStark Student Center, 712-279-5393The <strong>Campus</strong> Events Department serves the <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> Community in organizing <strong>and</strong>completing all the details pertinent to individual meetings <strong>and</strong> large group gatherings.Events are added to the <strong>University</strong> master calendar <strong>and</strong> are tracked until completion of thelast details. Functions are added to the master calendar via the virtual EMS program (EventManagement System) on the BCYou homepage. To avoid scheduling conflicts, employees<strong>and</strong> student groups must use the EMS system to reserve campus facilities for meetings,programs, <strong>and</strong> activities, as well as reserve audio/visual/technical equipment <strong>and</strong>/or foodservice. Many events are also cross-listed on the <strong>University</strong> public events calendar, found onthe BCU homepage.CAMPUS MINISTRY/BCCARESHeelan Hall, 040, 712-279-5227<strong>Campus</strong> Ministry focuses on the spiritual life <strong>and</strong> pastoral care needs of the BCU community,offering a variety of opportunities for liturgical involvement, retreats, Bible study/prayergroups <strong>and</strong> RCIA. It strives to provide an environment for community building <strong>and</strong>meaningful ministry opportunities nationally <strong>and</strong> internationally for students <strong>and</strong> employeesincluding mission trips during “J” term, May term, <strong>and</strong> Spring Break. It also seeks toeducate <strong>and</strong> involve the BCU community in a deeper underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> living out of theCatholic Franciscan values which are core to the unique identity of <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong>.<strong>Campus</strong> Ministry is the central office on campus for local service opportunities. <strong>Campus</strong>Ministry’s service division, known as BCCares, provides students opportunities to volunteeron <strong>and</strong> off campus through a variety of programs <strong>and</strong> projects. Special projects include theSenior Citizen’s Luncheon, the Christmas Party for People with Disabilities, <strong>and</strong> the EasterEgg Hunt. BCCares can connect students with other opportunities off campus that includebut are not limited to the Mission of the Messiah, Soup Kitchen, <strong>and</strong> Habitat for Humanity.CAMPUS RECREATION <strong>and</strong> INTRAMURALSStudent Development Office, Stark Student Center, 712-279-5221The Recreation <strong>and</strong> Intramurals program provides students, employees, <strong>and</strong> alumni with avariety of fun activities for participants of all skill levels. Intramurals also serve as a greatway to meet new people, learn new things, <strong>and</strong> develop interests in lifelong sports <strong>and</strong>games. A variety of team <strong>and</strong> individual activities are offered, including leagues <strong>and</strong>tournaments for flag football, basketball, volleyball, dodge ball, soccer, ping pong, pool <strong>and</strong>more! Look for notices from campus life staff announcing events <strong>and</strong> how to participate, orstay updated by checking out the Intramurals web page on the <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> website.CAMPUS SECURITYHeelan Hall, 712-279-5430 (office) <strong>and</strong> 898-1888 (cell)The main responsibility of <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> Security is for the physical safety of our students, faculty<strong>and</strong> staff. <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>Cliff</strong> Security also ensures the safety of <strong>University</strong> property which includeslocking <strong>and</strong> securing buildings, reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement, enforcementof parking regulations, <strong>and</strong> reporting any emergencies to local authorities. <strong>Campus</strong> securityhas a good working relationship with the Sioux City Police <strong>and</strong> Fire Departments.9
