Recreational fishing is controlled under the recreation fishing regulations <strong>of</strong> the Fisheries Act.Current bag limits which apply generally, also apply within the <strong>Park</strong>. As research and monitoringproceeds it may become apparent that the current bag limits need revision if the recreational fisheryis to be maintained at present levels. Recreational fishing in high-use areas, where there are a number<strong>of</strong> competing and conflicting uses, may require restrictions to minimise conflicts.Actions1. Regulate recreational fishing in the <strong>Park</strong> according to the fishing regulationsproclaimed under the Fisheries Act, in consultation with CALM. Advise the publicthrough appropriate means.2. Ensure monitoring <strong>of</strong> fish populations is undertaken to ensure sustainable use.Liaise with the Fisheries <strong>Department</strong>.3. Seek proclaimation <strong>of</strong> fishing regulations, if necessary, to provide protection to anyspecies <strong>of</strong> fish shown to be in need <strong>of</strong> special protection.4. Seek proclaimation <strong>of</strong> bag limits specifically for the <strong>Park</strong>, as necessary.5. Prohibit recreational fishing in Sanctuary Zones.6. Allow recreational fishing in the <strong>Park</strong> using hand held rods, lines with no morethan three hooks attached (a flight <strong>of</strong> ganged hooks counts as one hook), rocklobster pots and drop nets for crabs. Prohibit the use <strong>of</strong> traps, set-lines or nets andspearfishing using compressed air.7. Prohibit use <strong>of</strong> gidgees, hawaiian slings, spearguns or any form <strong>of</strong> spear, definedunder the Fisheries Act, within 1 800m <strong>of</strong> the shore and in Sanctuary Zones.Prohibit competition spearfishing in the <strong>Park</strong>.8. Prohibit fish aggregating devices (FADS) in the <strong>Park</strong>.9. Allow for charter boat operations providing services for recreational fishing bypermit, issued by CALM under standard concession arrangements.38
