Lubrication & Maintenance/500 Hour/12 Month8. Fill engine crankcase with correct <strong>John</strong> <strong>Deere</strong> engineoil through timing gear cover opening (A) or rocker armcover opening (B), depending on engine application.(See DIESEL ENGINE OIL in Fuels, Lubricants, andCoolant Section for determining correct engine oil.)NOTE: Crankcase oil capacity may vary slightly.ALWAYS fill crankcase to top arrow or withincrosshatch on dipstick, whichever is present. Thisshould be checked after engine has run and oilhas drained back into crankcase. DO NOT overfill.To determine the correct oil fill quantity for your engine,see ENGINE CRANKCASE OIL FILL QUANTITIES inthe Specifications Section.Timing Gear Cover Oil FillRG11541 –UN–01DEC00IMPORTANT: Immediately after completing any oilchange, crank engine for 30 secondswithout permitting engine to start. Thiswill help insure adequate lubrication toengine components before enginestarts.9. Start engine and run to check for possible leaks.10. Stop engine and check oil level after 10 minutes.
