Shows how enhanced information systems canlead to decreased costs and more efficient outcomes. Explains howglobal supply chain partners can be evaluated. Deliberates efficientorganizational structures for fulfilling global demand. Shows globalrisk and provides risk management tools to mitigate. In additionto being exposed to the theory, case studies will be used to furtherreinforce the material’s application in practice.MBA577 Supply Chain Management (3 crs.)Introduces an integrated enterprise approach of flow of goods andservices from suppliers to customers (supplier relationship, procurement, operations management, inventory control, logistics and transportation, distribution and customer service). Every topic in eacharea is being discussed in the context of integrated flow of goods andservices from suppliers to customers and continuous flow of informationfrom the customers to the suppliers. Covers the issues facingmanagers of import-export firms, trading companies, internationalservice companies, and multinational corporations.MBA593 Strategic Management (3 crs.)Examines strategic analysis and decision making under conditions ofdynamic uncertainty, with a focus on cross-functional integration andthe management of processes and change. The importance of achievinga fit between the internal and external environment for organizationalsurvival and success is a central issue.Chemistry (CHM)CHM415 Topics in Medicinal Chemistry (3 crs.)Study of basic principles of organic chemistry and pharmacologyused in the design of chemical substances that interact with biologicalsystems. Discussion centers on molecular basis for drug action, structureactivity relationships, and methods of synthesis of the importantclasses of drug substances. Prerequisites: CHM221 and CHM222.CHM420 Biochemistry II (3 crs.)Extension of CHM301. Develops to a greater depth the topics ofbioorganic chemistry, enzyme kinetics and mechanisms, intermediarymetabolism and metabolic controls, and certain selected topics whichare necessary for an understanding of modern biochemistry. Prerequisite:CHM301.CHM421 Biochemistry Laboratory (1 cr.)Introduces various laboratory techniques essential to the practice ofmodern biochemistry including separations, purification, and analyticalmethods. Prerequisite or concurrent: CHM301.CHM450 Studies in Physical Chemistry (3 crs.)Studies selected topics in advanced physical chemistry with extensiveuse made of current literature in the field. Topics are chosen fromquantum chemistry, statistical thermodynamics, catalysis, molecularspectra, and molecular structure. Prerequisite: CHM362 or permissionof instructor.CHM460 Instrumental Analysis (3 crs.)Laboratory course with study of the following instrumental methodsof analysis: fluorescence, X-ray, atomic absorption, flame emission, mass spectrometry, high pressure liquid chromatography, and nucleartechniques. Students perform analyses with all instruments. Shortdiscussion period precedes each laboratory exercise. Prerequisite:CHM362 or permission of instructor.CHM480 Organic Reactions and Mechanisms (3 crs.)Concerned with theoretical organic chemistry with emphasis givento stereochemistry, electronic theory, reaction mechanisms, and theapplication of physical methods to organic chemistry. Prerequisite:CHM222 or permission of instructor.CHM481 Advanced Inorganic Chemistry (4 crs.)Focused on solid-state chemistry, acid and base chemistry, oxidationand reduction chemistry, physical techniques of inorganic chemistry, reactions of coordination complexes, d-metal organometallic chemistry, nanotechnology, cluster chemistry, and bioinorganic chemistry.Topics build upon the material from CHM 381. Three periodslecture and three periods lab/week. Prerequisite: CHM 381.CHM490 Selected Topics (1-3 crs.)Communication/Journalism (COM)COM410 Women and the Media (3 crs.)Introduces overview of the many and varied contributions of womenin mass media.
