The impact would be to grow the purchasing power of the Thaimass market and boost the domestic economy. Once these dataservices would be integrated into a national model of digitalconvergence, broadband would emerge as the new driver of GDPgrowth in Thailand. We anticipate that under the MB scenario,GDP in Thailand would receive a broadband boost that would risegradually each year until it reaches 2.4% of GDP in the year 2010.This virtuous circle, driven by mobile data services, would drivenew investments, expand the domestic economy, and bring a riseto GDP of as much as 2.4% per year, all other things being equal.Meaningful Broadband’svirtuous circle couldproduce a spike in GDP. Broadband as meta-driver of growth: Much of the recentliterature on the social and economic benefits of broadbandconclude that high-speed internet is now a “meta-driver”overall macroeconomic growth, rather than merely a driver ofICT industries alone This conclusion results from an analysis ofmany studies published by academic institutions and industryassociations in 2008 and 2009. Developing Country’s Broadband Spike: Low-to-middleincome developing countries can get a greater GDP boost frombroadband than advanced countries, according to aninfluential World Bank report. 50 Broadband’s GDP Impact is predictable: Some studies lookto the future to predict impacts of broadband in specificnations.
