The yacht broker Michael Burnett acquired the proudhulk, had the hull painted blue and then went in search of abuyer. The timing for this was not bad: the renaissance of classicyachts had just about begun and some historic boats hadalready been professionally restored. In the end, the Italiannaval architect F. Giorgetti, partner of the company Giorgetti& Magrini and author of some major renovation projects offamous yachts, found a buyer for Lulworth. Initially, the planhad been to have the restoration done by C&N, but they thenchanged their minds and had Lulworth towed to Italy in afloating dock. Work started in a yard in La Spezia until theclient withdrew because of the high restoration costs and theproject ground to a halt. Once more, then, Lulworth went backto sleep – this time in the shed of an Italian shipyard.It was here that Giuseppe Longo discovered her in February2001. The manager of the yard »Classic Yacht Darsena«in Viareggio, just 50 kilometres along the coast, was lookingfor a new project. The hull of Lulworth, by now completelyempty and standing in the shed like a dinosaur skeleton, im-mediately caught his attention. »My view of Patience (anotherboat that he had wanted to see) was obscured by the loveliesthull I had ever seen,« he says. »We climbed up on the bowof this magnificent beast, and she looked more like the skeletonof a beached whale. Sandwiched between the beautifulTuscany hillsides and the Mediterranean Sea, Lulworth was abeautiful sight.Longo was here on behalf of Dutch entrepreneur Johan vanden Bruele, who was just finishing the restoration of a 1939Feadship motor yacht on his yard in Viareggio. Some days later,both returned to Lulworth together.
