It ishome to a number <strong>of</strong> outstanding departments and to theinternationally ranked Law Faculty; all are committed toresearch to develop a greater understanding <strong>of</strong> all aspects <strong>of</strong>our complex society, from the impact <strong>of</strong> political, legal andeconomic systems on social and economic welfare to humanrights and security. They seek to disseminate that researchthrough innovative graduate courses.A wide range <strong>of</strong> courses is <strong>of</strong>fered, many <strong>of</strong> which haveresearch council recognition. Many are a preparationfor doctoral work; others are discrete programmes <strong>of</strong>advanced study; others provide a pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualification.All are rooted in research <strong>of</strong> international standing andstudents have access to a well-resourced, active researchenvironment.<strong>Graduate</strong> programmes are <strong>of</strong>fered in Anthropology,Archaeology and Archaeological Science, Area <strong>Studies</strong>,Geography and Environmental Science, Development<strong>Studies</strong>, Economics, Educational <strong>Studies</strong>, Internet <strong>Studies</strong>,Law, Management <strong>Studies</strong>, Politics and InternationalRelations, Social Policy and Social Work, and Sociology.Since October 2004 a number <strong>of</strong> departments havemoved to the purpose-built Centre for Advanced <strong>Studies</strong>in the Social Sciences, adjacent to the Law Faculty. TheCentre houses the Departments <strong>of</strong> Economics, Politicsand International Relations, and Sociology and the Centrefor Socio-Legal <strong>Studies</strong>.
