Applications will also be considered from others, inwhich case the Programme can be completed in a minimum <strong>of</strong> sixyears. Supervision is arranged to suit the DPhil topic.http://cpd.conted.ox.ac.uk/healthsciences/courses/dphil/default.asp|| Thesis topics should have a significant focus on issues relatedto evidence-based practice, e.g. barriers to getting evidenceinto practice; failure to get research into practice; gettingresearch into a practice project in a particular evidence areaand its evaluation; or methodological issues in researchsynthesis etc.|| The DPhil should not focus on a primary research topic thatwould be better suited to a different discipline, e.g. healthservices research or primary research in a particular speciality.|| Applicants will need a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oxford</strong> supervisor beforethey can be accepted onto the part-time DPhil programme.Most <strong>of</strong> the supervision and discussion <strong>of</strong> the thesis should bewith the <strong>Oxford</strong> supervisor.|| Students are likely to be based outside <strong>Oxford</strong> and may,therefore, find it helpful to have a local supervisor who shouldhave content knowledge with a PhD or equivalent backgroundand who is capable <strong>of</strong> supervising a thesis; for students basedoutside the UK such a local supervisor is a pre-requisite foracceptance onto the programme.ϐϐTaught ProgrammesMSc in Evidence-Based Health Care (part-time)The MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care is <strong>of</strong>fered part-timeconsisting <strong>of</strong> six assessed taught modules (some online) and aresearch project with an associated dissertation. The flexiblestructure <strong>of</strong> the course has been devised to fit with the structure<strong>of</strong> specialist training and to accommodate student choice. Thisis a joint programme with the Department <strong>of</strong> Primary HealthCare and the Department for Continuing Education’s ContinuingPr<strong>of</strong>essional Development Centre.
