For some eighty years, St Benet’s has beena Permanent Private Hall and in recent years, monks from manynationalities have been members <strong>of</strong> the Hall, studying at variouslevels in the <strong>University</strong>. Laymen, <strong>of</strong> different religious traditions,but mostly Catholic, form a majority <strong>of</strong> the undergraduate andgraduate students.The monastic <strong>of</strong>fice and Mass are celebrated daily in the Chapel,to which all members are welcome, but not obliged. Members areexpected to be supportive and respectful <strong>of</strong> the monastic life. Thesmall numbers make it a close community.<strong>Graduate</strong> students are accepted for most Arts subjects,especially Theology, Philosophy and History. Supervision isarranged outside the Hall for subjects not provided within the Hall.Art, Music, Drama and SportSt Benet’s has a rowing VIII. For all sports, students are linked toTrinity College. Students sing in <strong>University</strong> choirs, participate inthe <strong>Oxford</strong> Union, and in the past have done well in <strong>University</strong>Challenge, and in general are encouraged to take the fullest partin <strong>Oxford</strong> life, its societies and activities.ϐϐFunding and PrizesThere are no Hall awards, but support will be given for applicationsto other bodies for awards tenable at St Benet’s.Also see the <strong>Graduate</strong> Finance Guide.ϐϐMCRSt Benet’s has a joint MCR and JCR.ϐϐAccommodation and Meals<strong>Graduate</strong>s can sometimes be <strong>of</strong>fered accommodation in the Hall.We cannot <strong>of</strong>fer family accommodation. All study rooms haveethernet points and telephones; graduates are <strong>of</strong>fered rooms withen-suite facilities. The Hall has a common table.
