A City Master Plan New Bedford 2020clients, and owns and manages 2,551 apartments of public housing located within the city. In addition, theAuthority manages approximately 1,800 housing subsidy vouchers. These vouchers provide financialassistance to qualified households for renting privately owned apartments in the Greater New Bedford Area.New Bedford Redevelopment Authority (NBRA)—The NBRA was created in 1960 with the purpose ofengaging in redevelopment projects under the Urban Renewal Program. This is a five member board with fourmembers appointed by the mayor subject to confirmation by City Council and one member is appointed by theGovernor.Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA)—SRTA was established in 1974 in response toMassachusetts’ legislation which authorized the establishment of regional transit authorities.
