Flat floor (Desirable and used <strong>of</strong>ten in conjunction with the use <strong>of</strong>wheelchairs.)Where available, buses shall be equipped with an unobstructed flat floordesign (i.e., no wheel wells and no step-up from the entrance area to thepassenger area). Chassis manufacturer shall make provisions for “flat flooreffects” and shall include as a minimum, low pr<strong>of</strong>ile tires and modified rearsuspension, etc., to permit elimination <strong>of</strong> body wheel wells without tiresmaking contact with the underside <strong>of</strong> floor during wheel jounce conditions.(On Type D, transit style buses the Flat Floor begins after front wheel wells.Not available if engine is in the rear <strong>of</strong> the bus.)Headroom requirements shall remain the same as a standard vehicle andshall accommodate either a low headroom vehicle or an optional highheadroomvehicle.37.
