In verify mode, the cursor movement keys to move right, down or to the next lineare not valid. The keys to move the cursor left and up are valid, and blank thescreen positions through which the cursor moves.Note: The ~ (Cursor Right) and ~ (Cursor Left) keys are normally redefined inthe scan code translated table to invoke the character advance and character backspacefunctions, respectively.Delete FunctionThe delete function is initiated when the operator presses the Del (Delete) key.The Del key is valid only when an ENTR command is being processed. The Delkey is not valid in a blank check field or in a mandatory fill field if the mandatoryfill check is enabled. In enter, update, special verify, and field correct modes, when the Delete key ispressed the character above the cursor is deleted. All characters within the fieldto the right of the cursor are shifted one position to the left. A blank is insertedat the end of the field. The cursor position does not change. If the cursor is within a picture check subfield when the delete key is pressed, thedelete function treats the subfield as a field. If the cursor is within a field definedas format level zero, the delete function treats the total number of l-byte alphamericfields as one field. In verify mode, the Del key is not valid.Duplicate FunctionThe duplicate function is initiated when the operator presses the Dup (Duplicate)key. The Dup key is valid only when an ENTR command is being processed, andwhen the Dup enable flag is set to zero. The Dup key is never valid if the systemis awaiting field exit or record advance. How the Dup key is processed dependsupon the current field definition. In enter, update, special verify, and field correct modes, if the field definition doesnot specify a main storage duplicate field, data is duplicated into the current fieldfrom corresponding field positions in the previous record buffer. The duplicationbegins at the current cursor position and continues to the end of the field. If thefield is a right-to-Ieft field, the duplication begins at the current cursor position andcontinues to the leftmost position of the field. A field advance function is thenperformed. If the field definition specifies a main storage duplicate field, data is duplicatedinto the field as described above, except that the data is duplicated from themain storage location specified in the format. If the field definition specifies a format level zero, only the current position isdupl icated from the previous record.Keyboard Functions 323
