6.8 Time period during which assessments are validPolicy6.8.1 Generally, a case manager or adjudicator will accept the results ofany assessment conducted within the previous one-year period,even if completed for another purpose, as long as it provides thecase manager or adjudicator with the required information.Policy rationaleAssessments may be costly and time-consuming for drivers, OSMV andhealth care providers. If an assessment has already been conducted thatprovides a case manager or adjudicator with the information required for adriver fitness determination, there is no need for an individual to be reassessed,so long as the results of the assessment are still reliable. Becausemany conditions are progressive, and an individual’s abilities may changeover time, assessment results generally only continue to be reliable for aperiod of one year after completion of the assessment.6.9 Time limits for drivers to complete assessmentsPolicy6.9.1 Whenever a case manager or adjudicator requests an assessment,the case manager or adjudicator will inform the individual of thetime period within which the assessment must be completed.6.9.2 A case manager or adjudicator will allow an individual 30 days tocomply with a request for an(a) Examination of Visual Functions(b) Visual Field Test(c) Hearing Report, or(d) DriveABLE assessment.6.9.3 A case manager or adjudicator will allow an individual 45 days tocomply with a request for a driver’s medical examination or othermedical assessment.48
