Inaddition, consistently maintaining high standardsof its businesses and operations by ensuringadequate, safe, reliable and continuous deliveryof power supply, providing excellent customerservice and inculcating a work culture of highintegrity are among its many commitments inpowering business excellence.Bumiputera Vendor Development ProgrammeThe Bumiputera Vendor Development Programme(BVDP) established by TNB is a testimony to thecompany’s commitment towards the Government’sobjectives to create a structured BumiputeraCommercial and Industrial Community (BCIC)comprising a competent group of entrepreneursin manufacturing, works and value-addedservices. It is also in line with the aspirations ofthe country’s National Development Policy andVision 2020.TNB’s BVDP is also part of the Procurement BestPractices initiatives in creating and developingresilient, innovative and competitive vendors inline with “The Red Book – Procurement Guidelines& Best Practices”. The effectiveness of theimplementation ensures best procurement valueto TNB.Rural Street Lighting ProgrammeUnder the Rural Street Lighting programme, theDistribution Division embarked on Phase IV ofthe programme awarded by the Ministry of Ruraland Regional Development (or KKLW –Kementerian Kemajuan Luar Bandar dan Wilayah)on 15 August 2008 with a 12-month contractterm expiring 14 August 2009. In addition to theexisting 98,660 streetlights from Phase I andPhase II, and 26,408 units of 150W under PhaseIII, another 4,907 streetlights have been approvedby KKLW for installation under Phase IV with atotal contract sum of RM2.5 million.To date, the installation of a total of 129,260units rural street lighting have been completedthroughout Peninsular Malaysia.Special Electrification Projectsi. Rural Electrification Project – SolarHybrid – Pulau Banggi, Kudat, SabahThe project was awarded to TNB with atotal contract amount of RM21 million. Theconstruction site was handed over on 2 April2007 and was successfully completed on 28December 2008. It is the biggest solar hybridproject in Malaysia and uses a combinationof diesel generator and solar system. It gives24–hour electricity supply to Pekan Karakit,Kg. Singgah Mata, Kg. Perpaduan, Kg. BatuPutih, Kg. Batu Layar and Kg. Lok Tohog.ii.Electricity Supply Project to Pulau Ketam,Pelabuhan Klang, SelangorIn this project, electricity will be supplied toPulau Ketam through submarine cables fromPort Klang. The submarine cable project witha value of RM85.36 million is funded byAAIBE & KKLW. The project is still ongoingand in the current stage of manufacturing ofthe submarine cables in Nexans factory,Norway. The project is expected to becompleted in October 2009.Renewable Energy (RE) DevelopmentTNB lends its full support to the Government’sSmall Renewable Energy Programme (SREP) byhelping developers of potential SREP projects toidentify suitable points of interconnection withthe TNB distribution network, as well as conducttechnical studies for the project. TNB alsoentered into long term RE Power PurchaseAgreements (REPPA) with RE proponents.As at August 2009, TNB has signed elevenREPPAs totaling 54.55 MW. To date TNB is inthe process of finalising negotiations to concludea total of 15 REPPAs with other SREP developersusing biogas, biomass and mini hydro as REresources.
