<strong>Tenaga</strong> <strong>Nasional</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> 189 Annual Report 2009The Transmission Division, in collaboration withthe Corporate Services Department, conductedTNB’s Electrical Safety Awareness Campaign forteachers in every state. The campaign which waslaunched for the first time in 2007 by YB DatukSeri Hishammuddin Hussein, the then Minister ofEducation discussed various aspects of electricalsafety to school teachers who would in turneducate their students on the safety issues.TNB Technical Sports, organised by the DistributionDivision, featured competition on some of thetasks commonly performed by TNB staff.Participants were evaluated on the pace andefficiency with safety features given the priority.Occupational Safety and HealthAwardTNB Occupational Safety and Health ExcellenceAward (SEMS) ceremony in recognisance of theoutstanding achievement of the power stationswas held in conjunction with the TNB 4th OSHConference. The improved performances of allthe divisions were notable.All TNB power stations also received OSHExcellence Awards for the utility sector from theMalaysian Society of Occupational Safety andHealth (MSOSH). The Putrajaya and Chenderohpower stations won the “Grand Award” whileseven power stations won Gold Medal (Class I)including TNB Kuala Lumpur, Distribution Division,which participated for the first time. Apart fromthat, one station won a Gold Medal (Class II) andtwo others won Silver Medal.Contractor SafetyAs an organisation, TNB cares for the safety ofits contractors and the public. As such it has toenforce the use of NIOSH-TNB Safety Passport(NTSP) on all employees of contractors workingin the premises and installations of TNB witheffect from January 2009. All contractors’employees must attend and pass the NTSPcourse organised by NIOSH to obtain the passport.By enforcing the use of the safety passport, TNBis not only complying with the OSH Act, 1994,but has also ensured that contractors can work insafe environment. To date, almost 14,000contractors have been trained.TNB supervisors have also attended the similarcourses internally to ensure that those whosupervise the contractors, are exposed to thesame training.Emergency ResponseIn safeguarding the continuity of electricitysupply, TNB is responsible in ensuring that itsoperations are always in the state of preparedness.With such awareness, TNB has accorded priorityin handling such incidents as black outs, fires,floods and others that could interrupt the supplyof electricity. An Emergency Response frameworkhas been formulated in collaboration with theEnterprise Wide Risk Management Department.Two important documents namely CorporateEmergency Action Plan (CEAP) for TNB systemand TNB Non-system respectively were producedcovering the three major emergency managementcore divisions namely Generation, Transmissionand Distribution. The Crisis Management Team isheaded by Senior Vice President (Operations andTechnical).Annual Emergency Response exercise wasconducted by the three core divisions involvingmore than 80% of the total workforce. Weaknessesin the system were identified and were subject torepeated review by local management after eachdrill so that any changes in the procedures wereaddressed at the operational level to ensure theeffectiveness of the process. TNB has also takenpro-active steps to ensure that employees arephysically and mentally ready to deal with anyemergencies. Training sessions were conductedby technical experts in emergency managementinvolving members of the 2008/2009 EmergencyManagement Team and Emergency ResponseTeam.
