<strong>Tenaga</strong> <strong>Nasional</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> 188 Annual Report 2009occupational safety and health report (CONT’d.)TNB has also established strong relationshipswith regulatory namely the Department ofOccupational Safety and Health (DOSH), theEnergy Commission, Fire and Rescue Departmentand other government agencies. Meetings,discussions and dialogs were held with theseorganisations to address OSH issues that mightarise. In addition, recreational and sportingactivities were held to foster goodwill andstrengthen good relationships.OSH TrainingThe importance of OSH training to staff of theorganisation including the top management needsno further emphasis. In this regard, the secondTNB OSH Management Seminar with the theme“OSH IS VITAL FOR BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY”was held on 25 February 2009. Minister of HumanResources Malaysia, YB Datuk Dr. S. Subramiamdelivered the keynote address. Other resourcepersons included senior management of the GLCs.The 4th OSH Conference was held on 6-7 May2009 at the Kilat Club Multipurpose Hall attendedby almost 400 participants. Conference paperswere presented by both external agencies aswell as TNB’s own internal resources with theobjective sharing experiences and knowledgerelating to OSH. The OSH National Symposiumwas held at the TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., in KotaBharu and Kuantan for the Eastern Region and atILSAS for the Central Region as part of continuouseducation and knowledge sharing on OSH.OSH briefings were also held in conjunction withcampaigns carried out by Divisions. This will helpincrease the level of OSH awareness and toachieve zero fatal accident target.OSH PromotionsIn conjunction with the second TNB OSH TopManagement seminar, Safety Pledge Card (SPC)was launched by the President/Chief ExecutiveOfficer of TNB who set an exemplary precedenceby giving his written commitment on the card toinclude OSH reminder in all his speeches. SafetyPledge Card will be distributed to all employeesfor their written commitment. TNB will contributeRM1.00 for each card and the collection will bechanneled to charities.OSH was promoted through posters, booklets andbrochures circulated to employees. “SafetyWatch” and “Safety Alert” bulletins are publishedmonthly and could be viewed at the TNB website.The Divisional OSH Unit also distributesbrochures and newsletters for their internalcirculation.Safety Campaigns were organised by all coreDivisions. Speakers from the relevant agencieswere invited to share their knowledge andexperiences. Various activities related to safetywere held. In addition, medical examination andblood donation activities were organised and hadreceived great response from local staff.Apart from training programmes and coursesorganised through the Safety School by the OSHand Environment Department, Group HumanResources Division, other divisional OSH unitswere also actively conducting training for TNBemployees to meet the target of having eachemployee attending at least one day OSHtraining.Defensive Driving courses were also conducted,especially for corporate drivers and other driversin general to help reduce the incidence of trafficaccidents.
