<strong>Tenaga</strong> <strong>Nasional</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> 70 Annual Report 2009OPERATIONS REVIEWTransmission (Cont’d.)Operational ImprovementQuality Management and InitiativesFor Financial Year 2008/2009, TransmissionDivision had maintained its MS ISO 9001:2000certification standard for the fourth consecutiveyear after having successfully undergoing recertificationaudit by SIRIM QAS International inMarch 2009.During the period in review, the Division hadembarked on various quality initiatives inpreparation for ISO 9001:2008 certification forthe new Financial Year 2009/2010. One of suchinitiatives was the WIT-5S (Work ImprovementTeams – 5S) certification by the MalaysiaProductivity Center (MPC). The Division is pleasedto report that for the current financial year end,a total of twenty three (23) out of twenty four(24) Business Units had succeeded in being 5Scertified by MPC, a tremendous record from theearlier target of a fifty (50) per cent achievementwithin the year.On another note, the Anugerah Kualiti PresidenTNB (AKP) framework was re-emphasised in aneffort to further improve the business managementof all Business Units of the Division with thetarget average score exceeding eight hundred(800) points. This was embodied in our “TX800”effort with four (4) strategic focus areas, vis-avis,strengthening the organisational structure,reinforcing the management control system,enhancing communication effectiveness, andinstilling the culture of AKP.The Division is also pleased to report a hundred(100) per cent involvement of the non-executivestaffs in the WIT-ICC (Work Improvement Teams-Innovative & Creative Circle) quality initiatives.A total of two hundred and fifty two (252) teamswere formed and are actively participating inWIT-ICC related conventions. Three (3) teams,namely Sinar from Johor Bahru, N95 fromSeremban and Evolution Xtreme from Butterworthhave been selected to represent TNB at theNational Level MPC Convention in August 2009.To date, this is the highest number ofrepresentations from the Division since itsinception. It should be noted that these threeteams also won the 3-star Gold Award in thesaid Convention.CompetencyThe Division monitors the transmission systemright to the seconds, daily, every year andwithout fail to ensure a continuous and reliableelectricity supply. Thus, staff competency mustbe maintained at a very high competitive level soas to achieve the intended objectives.Competency-based training programmes werecontinuously planned and carried out throughoutthe year. Technical Colloquiums had been theplatform for both executives and non-executivesof the Division to share knowledge, experiencesand technical know-how.At departmental level, “Friday Learning” sessionswere conducted by the Division’s staffs toencourage a culture of knowledge sharing andcontinuous development whilst improving theirpresentation skills.
