Chapter 7: Waste management107(b) Expand the monitoring system to covermedium-size and small industries oncesatisfactory results are achieved.The management of medical waste has developed aninfrastructure for collection and sterilization of thiswaste, but further improvement and expansion islimited due to insufficient funding of hospitals andlack of a central medical waste incinerator.Recommendation 7.4:The Ministry of Health, with the support of theMinistry of Environment, Forests and Water Administration, should analyze:(a) The cost of medical waste management andsecure sufficient financing to cover the fullcost of medical waste management inhospitals and other health-care facilities;(b) Options for safe disposal of medical wasteand submit resulting proposals for action tothe Government for adoption.
