İstanbul’uimparatorluğunabaşkent olarak seçenConstantinus’unbaşı, ona ait olduğudüşünülen lahitparçası, Arcadius’unbüstü ve III’üncü Tutmosisdikilitaşının kaidesindeyer alan imparatorve maiyeti kabartmasının mulajı, bu bölümüzenginleştiren eserler arasında yer alıyor.Beşinci bölüm, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’na aiteserlerden oluşuyor. Osmanlı kültürü ve sanatınıifade eden, İmparatorluk kavramı bağlamındasimgesel önem taşıyan, padişahların özel ve resmi yaşantısını izleyiciye aktaracakeserler sergileniyor. Padişah portreleri, silahlar, mühürler, sorguçlar,murassa eşya, ferman ve kaftanlar sergilenen eserler arasında yer alıyor.Osmanlı sultanlarıyla sona eren sergi, kelimenin tam anlamıyla ‘tarihe biryolculuk’... Serginin kahramanları 3 bin 500 yıl boyunca bu topraklara hükmetti.Ama sizin gezip görmek için sadece haftalarınız var. Sergi 1 Ağustosgününe kadar devam edecek. The fourth section is reserved to the EasternRoman Empire, the Byzantine Empire. Although limitedin number, mosaics, coins, miniatures, the head of astatue believed to be that of Constantine who madeİstanbul (Byzantium) the capital of his empire, apiece of sarcophagus believed to belong toConstantine as well, the bust of Arcadius, thecast of the bas-relief of the Emperor and hissuite which is carved on the pedestal of theEgyptian Tutmosis III obelisk located nearthe Grand Bazaar in İstanbul are amongthose interesting pieces on display atthis section.The fifth section is devoted to articlesfrom the Ottoman Empire: Portraits ofSultans, arms, seals, panaches(helmet crests), jewellery andbejewelled objects, imperial orders(decrees) and caftans (imperialrobes). Those articles reflecting theOttoman culture and art, pieces witha symbolic value within the context ofthe concept of Empire, itemsobjectifying the private and publiclife of the sultans to the public,represent the last great empirehaving flourished on theseterritories. The exhibition isliterally a historical journey from theHittites to the Ottomans. The characters ofthis story are heroes who ruled theseterritories for 3 thousand and 500 years. In his inaugural speech, the Ministerof Culture and Tourism, Mr. Ertuğrul Günay shared his feelings in following words:“The highest enjoyment for a Minister of Culture is to experience the opening ofinteresting exhibitions, of excellent new museums, to know that millions of peoplein his country are in possession of the Museum Card opening the doors of museumsto them, that the interest for culture is expanding in progressive waves to theyounger generations. We must take this exhibition to other cities in our country andalso present it to the world abroad. Can there be a more adequate title for thisexhibition than “Emperors Gather in İstanbul?”.
