The Cactus Family
Some of the most interesting and exciting
plants in the world are cactus plants. The
cactus flower is beyond comparison when
it comes to beauty. Most of us, on a daily
basis, come across prickly pear and
tasajillo growing on every fence post in
Texas. But did you know there are over
2500 cactus species? Interesting facts will
be presented to this class and we'll have a
lot of fun learning the benefits of the cactus
plant including its habitat, physiology,
ethno botanical use, and its place in modern
landscaping. PowerPoint slides will be
presented along with informational handouts
for your future reference. NOTE:
Each person receives a living sample cactus
plant.
Instructor: Allen Duncan - Has been
involved in collecting cacti for over 50
years. He has studied and cataloged cactus
plants noting their physiology, habitat and
uniqueness. He has assembled information
about these plants and their benefits in
xerophyte landscaping for the Hill Country
area.

Pre-Landscaping: Before you go out and
spend the big bucks to hire a landscaper,
designer, or architect, there are many
things you can do concerning the design of
beds around your house and yard. Dr.
Harris will show you how to do most of the
basic design process yourself and give you
some hands-on experience on how you can
do some of the basics. He'll help you get
started drafting your plan and offer tips on
selecting and planting the right varieties.
He is a wonderful Master Gardener, not a
Landscape Designer or Architect.
