With just under 8,000 members in Kiel and over 112,000 members in Schleswig-Holstein, the Social
Union Germany (SoVD) is the largest social union by far. A long time ago, the former traditionalist
“Reichsbund” changed into a social service union with future potential. The SoVD continues to
become more effective and is opening up to a wider group of population through its family and partner
memberships.
4.000 volunteers look after the members in about 400 district unions of the SoVD in Schleswig-
Holstein. Using the motto “Together – not alone!” they organise various events – from excursions to
information evenings to many different kinds of social gatherings.
Qualified and experienced employees in the 15 regional offices and the three offices in Kiel, Lübeck
and Itzehoe offer advice for members on questions concerning social law, help with the filing of
applications and the enforcement of claims against public authorities, especially in the area of pension
schemes, health insurance, accident insurance, nursing care insurance and unemployment insurance,
the social compensation law as well as in all other issues of the severely disabled law. The union also
acts as representative toward agencies and social courts.
Year after year, SoVD Schleswig-Holstein secures about 8,000,000 Euros in social benefits for its
members.
