• Correct metabolic acidosis with sodium bicarbonate.<br />

• Hyperthermia should be treated with passive cooling and sedation<br />

with intravenous diazepam (large doses may be required). However,<br />

when body temperatures exceed 40ºC, then more active cooling is<br />

preferable, and the patient should be transferred to a critical care area.<br />
