People<br />
Koreans are one ethnic group speaking one language. They share certain<br />
distinct physical characteristics which differentiate them <strong>from</strong> other<br />
Asian people including Chinese and Japanese, and they have a strong cultural<br />
identity. Korean people are believed to be the descendants of several<br />
Mongol tribes which migrated to the Korean Peninsula <strong>from</strong> Central Asia<br />
particularly during the Neolithic Age (5000 B.C.-1000 B.C.) and the<br />
Bronze Age (1000 B.C.-300 B.C.). By the beginning of the Christian era,<br />
Koreans were a homogeneous people, although the country was not politically<br />
unified until the seventh century A.D.<br />
The population of the Republic of Korea topped 48.3 million in 2003.<br />
Its population density is among the world's highest, and Seoul, the capital<br />
city, has about 10 million inhabitants. Other major cities include Busan,<br />
Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, Daejeon and Ulsan. In recent years, urbaniza-
