Funding for the delivery of science outreach education services has been received from the<br />
University of Otago, and through joint initiatives with the University and MBIE including:<br />
• Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonics and Quantum Technologies – delivery of pilot outreach<br />
projects, six year contract<br />
• MBIE Participatory Science Platform – lead in delivery of the Otago Participatory Science<br />
Platform in collaboration with the University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic, NZ<br />
International Science Festival and Ngāi Tahu<br />
• Genetics Otago, University of Otago – MBIE Curious Minds strategy funding for Lab in a<br />
Box project, development of science engagement programmes and demonstrations<br />

The Museum received significant community support in 2014/15 to develop new exhibitions and<br />
programmes:<br />
• Otago Community Trust granted $100,000 towards the stage one redevelopment of<br />
Discovery World and the Planetarium.<br />
• Dr Marjorie Barclay Trust granted $35,000 towards the redevelopment of<br />
Discovery World.<br />
• Dunedin City Council voted to grant $75,000 per annum for four years.<br />
• Perpetual Trust granted the Museum $25,000 contribution to the redevelopment of<br />
the H D Skinner Annex.<br />

Philanthropic activities included the following:<br />
• The Association of Friends of the Otago Museum initiatives include creating new links<br />
with other Friends organisations, and promoting the Friends through University of Otago<br />
networks, alumni and existing Friend’s networks.<br />
• The Museum delivered a six-part lecture series for U3A Dunedin.<br />
• The Gifts and Legacies exhibition hosted the Otago Chamber of Commerce Business After<br />
5 event and invited the South Island manager of Perpetual Trust to speak to the guests<br />
on philanthropy and corporate giving, starting the conversation with potential new<br />
supporters.<br />
• The Gifts and Legacies at the Otago Museum catalogue encourages readers to consider<br />
joining the Friends and explains how they might support the Otago Museum through<br />
donation, gift or bequest.<br />
