The Museum aimed to develop and introduce new products generate income – this included a range of<br />

New products in development include the following:<br />

• The planetarium will generate new revenue by offering a new entertainment and<br />

educational experience for students, locals and international visitors.<br />

• The Venues team has been looking at opportunities to sell special events, corporate<br />

presentations and product launches within the planetarium and immersive gallery.<br />

• The Museum’s cruise ship offering was reviewed and several new products have been<br />

added.<br />

Several cost-saving initiatives identified in the 2013–14 plan have been brought to successful<br />

conclusion in the 2014–15 year:<br />

• All gallery lights are being changed to LED.<br />

• Installation of a new eco-friendly lift commenced, which will finish in the 2015–16 year.<br />

On 12 August 2015 the main passenger lift was commissioned. There will be a 75%<br />

reduction in energy costs to run the elevator.<br />

The Museum received the Qualmark EnviroGold Award in November 2104. This endorsement states:<br />

“EnviroGold Award exceeds the highest levels of environmental and social responsibilities. Represents<br />

strong leadership and advocacy.”<br />

Some of the other energy saving initiatives undertaken to ensure that funds are responsibly spent<br />

include the following:<br />

• Outdated lighting has been replaced by energy-efficient and cost-effective LED lighting<br />

throughout the building at a cost of $10,000. Energy efficient lighting is purchased as<br />

required throughout the Museum and new light fittings are checked to make sure they are<br />

compatible.
