Are you an Engineer or a Scientist and a woman?
STUDENT SOCIETY
A career in materials is very rewarding and an interest in
materials science can take you far – especially as materials
are all around us and govern our entire lives! Careers for
materials scientists can vary from across the aeronautical
sectors, to developing the next generation batteries, to growing
diamonds, to even researching nuclear fusion materials.
As an interdisciplinary branch of science, there is something
for everyone.
As an OUMatSoc member you’ll be able to go on industrial
visits to companies such as Airbus and P2i, attend interesting
lunchtime talks from experts in their field, gain key advice on
your CV from graduate recruiters and attend our socials and
networking events – usually heavily subsidised by our sponsoring
companies! We also run events on how to get Chartered
status (CEng, CSci, CEnv) from IOM3 (the professional
body that accredits the Oxford materials science degree).

and your network of support and contacts within Oxford?
OxFEST, or Oxford Females in Engineering, Science and
Technology, is a student-run society committed to
providing you with opportunities to develop all of these
and more. You will strengthen your employability skills at
our Workshop Series and meet role models in engineering,
technology and science at our Speaker Series, you can
develop any of your skills and qualities with the help of a
Mentor via our Mentoring Scheme, and you will broaden
your network of contacts and peers at our socials, and make
