VOLUNTEERING
Interested in learning how to be an effective campaigner,
engaging with the wider Oxford community and working in a
great team?
We are a group of students who meet weekly and campaign
on a variety of issues such as targeting harmful stigma and
stereotypes of homeless people; lobbying colleges to employ
ex-homeless citizens in Oxford, and encouraging individual
colleges and students to fundraise and come to a fuller
understanding of the complex issues of Oxford’s housing
crisis.
Last term we led a campaign on the City Council which
stopped them from criminalising rough sleeping in the city
centre.

STUDENT SOCIETY
Oxford Aid to the Balkans (OXAB) is a student run charity and
volunteering organisation which supports underprivileged
children across the Balkans.
This year we’re running projects in Bulgaria, Bosnia and
Albania over the summer holidays in a range of settings
including a summer camp, orphanages and community
centres. Volunteers usually go out to work with these projects
on a short term flexible basis making volunteering with easy
to fit in even if you already have some plans this summer.
Although fundraising is very valuable to our organisation, we
have no minimum fundraising fee making our trips cheap and
accessible all (just a £25 administration fee)!
OXAB is keen to take on volunteers of varying levels of
experience and will make sure that regardless of this, all
volunteers are fully prepared before they go out through
activities and language training sessions.
For volunteers interested in doing something more
challenging, we’re also looking to start up a project working
with Syrian refugees in camps near Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.
For this project we’d require volunteers for a much longer
time period and are looking for volunteers with more specific
skill sets or previous volunteering experience.

Raise And Give is the Student Union’s
charitable fundraising committee, and
it’s the society that has it all; sports
tournaments, hitch hikes, talent shows,
bungee jumping, Blind Dates, club nights, a
casino, street collections in fancy dress, and
the prestigious RAG Ball, to name a few!
RAG endeavours to orchestrate all this fun
and more in the name of charity and all you
have to do is take part.

UNITED Oxford is a student-led international development
organisation, mainly working with Oxford University and
Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. It aims to inspire
student-led social action worldwide, by initiating and
sustaining locally-led, student-led social action projects.
Oxford students collaborate and planning social action
projects throughout the year via Skype and email.
Beyond the project work, we hold annual exchanges: Oxford
students visit Kampala in August to assess the progress
of the projects and Makerere students visit Oxford every
February for OxFID, the UK’s leading student-run development
conference.
