About us: The Fast Streams are learning and development
programmes for graduates with the potential to become future
leaders of the Civil Service
Opportunities available: Our internship programmes give undergraduates
from diverse backgrounds (BME, SES, Disabled and
LGBT students) a sense of what being on a Fast Stream placement
is like.
• The Early Diversity Internship Programme is open to first
year undergraduates. It provides a 1-week placement (during
the spring holiday) in a government department. You’ll go to
network sessions and skills workshops and will shadow a
Fast Stream participant as they work
• The Summer Diversity Internship Programme puts talented
undergraduates and graduates on a 6 to 9-week work placement
in a government department. You’ll get an insight into
the broad range of opportunities available across the Civil
Service. By the end of the internship you should feel confident
in your ability to apply for the Fast Stream. You’ll do challenging
project-related work such as:
• conducting research
• supporting projects
• assisting on policy documents
• shadowing senior civil servants
• attending meetings with senior advisors on major
issues
• You’ll get a training allowance of up to £350 per week
