About us: Most people know someone who’s had mental health
problems. But not everyone knows someone who can make a difference.
Understanding and supporting adults with mental illness
is as rewarding as it is challenging. It takes individuals with a rare
blend of resilience, empathy, and intelligence to create a positive
impact. At Think Ahead we’re searching for exceptional people to
become mental health social workers. You’ll be paid to work in an
expert team alongside clinical professionals, study for a master’s
degree in social work, and receive leadership training.
Opportunities available: Think Ahead is a paid two-year fast-track
scheme. After preparing at the Summer Institute, you combine
frontline experience with academic studies. In Year One, you work
in a Think Ahead unit led by a Consultant Social Worker, and gain
a postgraduate diploma in social work. In Year Two, you work as
a qualified social worker and gain a master’s degree. After Think
Ahead, you can become a leading frontline practitioner, move
into service leadership and management, or use your leadership
experience in an alternative career.

VOLUNTEERING
Join Mind Your Head, Oxford’s Student Mental Health
campaign, and take advantage of this great opportunity to
develop your marketing, communications, event management,
media and speaking skills within OUSU’s largest student-run
campaign.
In 2013/14 the campaign won the national Student Minds
Award for Effective Campaigning. In 2016, we will be working
to organise more events to promote general well-being, fight
mental health stigma, and connect people with resources
available at Oxford for various mental health-related issues.
