Regional subdivisions of <strong>Finland</strong><br />

Administratively, the country is divided into 12 provinces (Finnish:<br />

lääni - Swedish: län) and 4 5 5 m unicipalities (kunta - kommunl, 102<br />

o f which are urban.<br />

Economically, the country is divided into 19 counties (maakunta<br />

- landskapl and 8 8 local planning regions. Data on the counties are<br />

given in table 292.<br />

For the needs o f national and regional planning, the country is<br />

divided into 2 0 regional planning areas. Data on these areas are<br />

presented in table 333.<br />

For general and presidential elections, the country is divided into<br />

15 electoral areas, each province consisting o f one or tw o such<br />

areas. D ata on electoral areas are given in tables 4 7 5 -4 7 9 .<br />

Other regional subdivisions, which often do not coincide w ith the<br />
