Ehrnborg and Rosen’s research 199
has found that the use of performanceenhancing
drugs has not always been
regarded as cheating. Some motives for
doping have been to improve and maintain
physical functioning, to cope with pressures
and the striving for social and psychological
goals, and to attain economic benefits.
Research by Wiefferink et al. 200 found that
users of performance-enhancing drugs
seem to justify their actions based on the
norms of sport. In addition, research by
Rosenfield 201 reveals that high school users
of ergogenic agents seem unaware of the
risks of their use.
The fact is that doping is cheating.
