Nature reserve and Castle ruin
„Limberg” – Preußisch Oldendorf
In the middle of the Nature Reserve “Limberg” lies the
ruin of a castle from the 12 th Century bearing the same
name. Only the 12 metre high tower of the castle has
survived to this day. The tower was restored in 1989
and is open to visitors. The 600 years old lime tree, the
„Gogerichtslinde“, under which judicial courts were held
in former times, is also worth seeing.

Obermehnen/Lübbecke
Die ehemalige Wallburg ist eine ausgedehnte, etwa 12 ha
große Befestigungsanlage. Ihr Graben- und Wallsystem
hat immer wieder die Phantasie der Menschen beschäftigt
und zu Sagen angeregt. Altertumsforscher haben auf
Grund von Metall- und Keramikfunden festgestellt, das
die erste Periode der Burg in die „Vorrömische Eisenzeit“
zurückreicht.
Der heutige Besucher sieht in dem waldigen Gelände nur
noch wenige Spuren der Vergangenheit. www.hedem.de

Torfmoor – Lübbecke/Hille
Das Große Torfmoor umfasst 500 ha und liegt in der
Niederung zwischen Wiehengebirge und Mittellandkanal.
Es wird noch heute als das bedeutendste Hochmoor
Westfalens und ein international wichtiges Feuchtgebiet
eingestuft. Vier gut ausgeschilderte Rundwanderwege
mit Schutzhütten und Beobachtungstürmen erschließen
eine einzigartige Landschaft.

“Babilonie” – Obermehnen/Lübbecke
The fortifications of this former hill fort extend over an
area of 12 hectares. Its network of ramparts and moats
has always captured people’s imagination and has
inspired many legends.
Based on metal and ceramic objects excavated, archeologists
consider that the fort dates back to the first period
of pre-Roman Iron Age. Today only a few traces of its past
are still visible.
